5G Cell Signal Boosters Help China Unicom Extend 5G Coverage

Project Introduction

China Unicom is one of the three major telecom service providers in China. Guangzhou Unicom is a branch of China Unicom in Guangzhou, one of the most developed cities in China. Guangzhou is a pioneer city in terms of 5G coverage. In 2020, Guangzhou Unicom has deployed over 10,000 5G base stations to cover the major areas of the city. The 5G frequency band of China Unicom is 3.5-3.6GHz. As the frequency is high and the signal penetration capability is weak, the 5G signal in many indoor areas is very weak. Guangzhou Unicom has adopted different solutions for the indoor coverage of different scenarios. It has purchased 3500 units of Hocell 5G cell signal boosters to extend 5G coverage to indoor areas for scenarios of hotels, offices, elevators, underground parking lots and business halls.   

Product and Solution

The 5G cell signal booster adopted supports a 5G frequency band (3500-3600MHz) and an LTE band (1800MHz). It includes one donor antenna, one indoor amplifier, one indoor service antenna and an RF cable.

Project Achievement

For indoor areas where 5G signal was weak or without 5G signal, after the 5G cell signal boosters (single channel, 1T1R) were deployed, 5G signal indoors was good enough to support 5G services, with network speed up to 200Mbps.
